Institute of Food Biotechnology became a member institute of JITRI in January 2014. It established in April 2015 two independent legal entities named Jiangnan University Institute of Food Biotechnology (Rugao) and Jiangnan University Institute of Food Biotechnology (Yangzhou), which are supported respectively by the government of Rugao City and Yangzhou City. The institute now has staff of 164. It also has research equipment with a total value of RMB 25 million, including a pilot plant for cereal deep processing, a pilot plant of ton-scale fermentation, etc. The institute has provided technical services for more than 210 enterprises. The annual R&D budget is about RMB 115 million.
